The process of spot welding is joining of the two surfaces with the heat production from resistance to electric current. In this process, two metal surfaces are placed together under the pressure of copper alloyed electrodes. The electric current is passed through these electrodes and the heat is produced due to resistance. This heat production due to resistance melts the spot area thus joining of the two surfaces with spot without heating the remaining surface of metal.
The amount of heat generated at spot depends upon the magnitude of resistance which is determined by current magnitude and duration of time. The too less heat will not produce good spot welding and two high heat will lead on to burn off the surfaces leading on to hole formation.
This welding set of spot welder is especially needed in all forms of automobile industry where it is used universally to weld sheet in making car while in automobile industry the robotic spot welder is used even. The portable spot welding is also used in orthodontics clinic for resizing of a molar band. The other application of the spot welder is to strap nickel- cadmium or nickel metal hydride to make batteries. The spot welding is used for metal sheet and wire mesh, aluminum metals, sheet, buckets, utensils etc.

The current is carried from the upper platen tooling through a U shaped laminated copper flexible link to provide rolling action during operation. The operating control station mounted on the machine is clearly visible and within reach of the operator. The transformer has F insulation. The cooling system is for transformers, bus bars, electrodes, platens, and thyristors, followed by discharge on an open drain pot for visual observation of flow. The platens are constructed from high-quality copper alloy accurately machined, having T slots to international standards. The machine can be provided with custom designed projection welding dies to suit various sizes and shapes of workpieces. The upper electrode is heavy duty 2 way cushioned pneumatic controlled cylinder controlled by an electrically operated solenoid valve. The compressed air provides electrode force.
